The Challenge
Heat stress costs money and causes real harm
In South Africa's climate, heat stress in poultry, livestock, and greenhouse crops shows up quickly in your production numbers. Animals under heat stress eat less, grow slower, and get sick more easily. Evaporative misting works well as a cooling method when the pump system produces the fine droplet size needed for flash evaporation. Too low a pressure and you get larger droplets that wet litter, feathers, and surfaces instead of evaporating into the air.
Conventional refrigeration and air conditioning are expensive to run and often just not practical across the scale of area that needs to be cooled. An evaporative misting system, when it is designed and specified correctly, is a far more cost-effective answer. The key phrase there is 'correctly'. A poorly designed system wets surfaces, patrons and birds instead of cooling the air, and makes things worse rather than better.
